Edren Walter

My name is Edren and I work as a Volunteer for the Vanuatu Red Cross Society, based in Port Vila assisting the Ministry of Health with fielding calls for the COVID-19 Hotline Call Centre.   My role involves receiving and responding to calls related to COVID-19 and TC Harold and recording all responses in an e-template.

This has not been an easy task.  Like many others who work in this area, I have faced some challenges which range from receiving prank calls on the COVID-19 Hotline to transportation costs all the while maintaining composure to provide professional support.

“I managed to address these difficulties by using the resources available to plan my work and to ensure that I maintain professionalism all the time despite the challenges”

I think that my work has made a difference because I have tried my best to support the Government of Vanuatu’s response plan to COVID-19 through my role of responding to calls through the hotline.

“It is important that when people call the hotline, I can remind them of good hygiene practices to keep them, their communities and our whole country COVID-19 free”
