Lanieta Tuimabu

Gender and Disability Focal Point

Lanieta Tuimabu has managed the operations of the Fiji Disabled People’s Federation since 2015. In 2018 she was appointed as a Fiji Anti-Discrimination Commissioner. She also serves as a Gender and Disability Focal Point for the Shifting the Power Coalition. When asked what she sees as priorities for the Coalition, Lanieta says that

“women with disabilities must be empowered and given the opportunity to be involved in leadership positions and decision-making processes. We are the best advocates on issues that affect us.”

Shifting the Power Coalition, Lanieta notes, “is amplifying the voices of women with disabilities at all levels and making change for an inclusive society.”

Shifting the Power Coalition is a feminist network of humanitarian organizations in the Pacific region, committed to promoting women’s leadership and inclusion of disabled people in humanitarian action. Since 2016, the Coalition has brought together 13 organizations across six countries to ensure that women take their rightful place at the head of emergency responses, and that the needs of women, girls and vulnerable members of the communities are at the heart of these responses. The work of the Coalition is supported by a network of national focal points. Find out more about the Shifting the Power Coalition via Official Website or follow Facebook Page
